As the sun sets and the oppressive heat subsides, people start to relax from the daily grind, the city slows from its usual hustle and bustle and fun is on the agenda, the kind of fun that only Havana’s nightlife can deliver. A night out in Havana is an adventure. With an ambiance that can only be described as magical, every evening opens a door to the unexpected. You never know what awaits you or when the party will end. Whether you find yourself spontaneously dancing under the stars or sipping fancy craft cocktails in an atmospheric local bar, you’ll discover that nightlife in Havana has a unique charm that sets it apart from the daytime buzz.
Navigating Havana’s Nightlife Scene
Finding the best bars and nightclubs in Havana can present a challenge for visitors for two main reasons. First, because it lacks the overt advertisements seen in other major cities. Havana’s bars, clubs and restaurants, aren’t easily found in glossy brochures or flashy billboards. Gone are the days when you could flip through a well-organized cultural bulletin; instead, you may have to rely on local knowledge and word-of-mouth.
Second, the usual tourist research tools aren’t as much help as in other countries. Google Maps isn’t reliable, as many Cuban businesses are not listed, or if they are, they’re with outdated information or the wrong address. Tripadvisor has mostly information from one-time tourists, who go to touristy places instead of where the locals go to party.
I’m what you might call a Party Girl, out most nights a week at gallery openings, buzzworthy new restaurants or dancing at the club until dawn. After years of living in this crazy city, I have created a carefully curated list of the best bars and clubs in Havana where I take my friends when they visit, and I’m excited to share it with you! Whether you’re in the mood for a chill restaurant with delicious cocktails, or an exhilarating dance floor experience, you’ll find something that suits your vibe.
Old Havana Nightlife Hotspots
El del Frente
This is my personal favorite. Tucked away from the hustle, this hidden gem features a tranquil terrace where smooth house music complements expertly crafted cocktails. Every dish is worth recommending; however, if seafood tempts your palate, don’t miss the ceviche!
Sibarita
This trendy newcomer has rapidly gained popularity in Old Town. Nestled on a rooftop adorned with vibrant graffiti and tropical decor, Sibarita specializes in tiki-style cocktails alongside a selection of bites. Renowned for claiming the title of “best burger in Havana,” (I agree!) it creates a perfect atmosphere for easing into the nightlife before heading to the clubs.
Ley Seca
Claiming a speakeasy flair, Ley Seca offers more of a nod at prohibition-era style, but don’t expect a vintage soundtrack. Instead, Cuban reggaeton and live performances will get you moving. Ley Seca stays open later than most Old Havana venues, making it a lively stop until the early hours.
Yarini
Located in the San Isidro district, Yarini is a rooftop restaurant offering stunning views of Old Town and craft cocktails. Regular live concerts feature Cuba’s finest jazz, trova, and salsa musicians—an ideal spot to immerse yourself in the local rhythms.
Centro Habana Hotspots
Bleco
Bleco has rapidly established itself as the hippest bar in the area. It is particularly for its international quality pizzas and expertly mixed drinks. With live DJs enhancing the energy, it’s the perfect bar to fire up your night.
Malecón 663
This bar, set right on Havana’s iconic Malecón, immerses you in local art and themed rooftop events such as Afro Night, gay night, and live jam sessions. With a stunning ocean view, it’s a memorable place to start your night.
Vedado Nightlife Hotspots
KingBar
As a pioneering gay-friendly disco, KingBar is now frequented by a diverse crowd. Open daily, it’s a vibrant space that welcomes both locals and tourists.
Pazillo
An outdoor bar that embraces a relaxed atmosphere, Pazillo hosts various themed nights, including a popular gay night every Wednesday. This venue’s specialty cocktails are a highlight; try a flight of their homemade flavored rums!

Vitrola Social Club
This is the club offshoot to La Vitrola restaurant in Old Havana. Vitrola SC stands out with its eye-catching decor of vintage cars and motorcycles. With an indoor dance floor and an outdoor lounge area, it’s a great place to enjoy the nightlife while savoring pizza.
Club 23
This revitalized club serves as an energetic after-hours spot with closing hours at 5 am or later, often featuring Afro-chill and house music. As the night continues, it captures those who move from Old Town for their late-night escapades.
Fábrica de Arte Cubano
Dubbed one of the best nightlife venues worldwide by Time Magazine, the Fabrica is an eclectic complex blending contemporary art, live concerts, and vibrant nightlife.
Its vast space is divided into various rooms, each hosting unique events. Be sure to check the website, the venue periodically closes for a month to change out exhibits. You can visit from Thursday to Sunday.
Miramar Nightlife Hotspots
El Johnny, LM, and Mio y Tuyo
These three venues cater to the local “Repa” scene and Miami Cubans visiting for a taste of home. Each club shares a similar energetic vibe, drawing crowds for nightly festivities. While El Johnny is closest to Old Town, Mio y Tuyo boasts outdoor seating, and LM sits near the famous Tropicana show, appealing to those seeking more after-hours excitement. Expect to dance until the wee hours of the morning, with closing times often running until 4 to 6 am.
Sangrila
A favorite among expats and locals, Sangrila offers a diverse music selection that goes beyond reggaeton, making it a perfect destination for those seeking familiar club vibes. With a blend of pop, house, and disco classics, this popular venue typically closes at 4 am, but checking their social media for updates is recommended.
More Tips for Enjoying Havana’s Nightlife
Pick the Neighborhood
As you can see, Havana boasts a plethora of options scattered across different neighborhoods. You’ll notice that Old Havana is full of restaurants, many with live music, for a more sedate vibe. Generally, the party ends earlier, sometimes before midnight. Outer areas, like Vedado and Miramar, host clubs that keep the party alive into the early dawn. Distances are fairly short, with only about a 10-20 minute cab ride from Old Town to any of these popular dance clubs.
Bring Cash to Party
When venturing out, it’s important to carry enough cash, as credit cards are not widely accepted, especially US credit cards. Cover charges in Havana range from around US$5 up to $50 if there is a special concert. VIP bottle service can be US$60 or more. Taxi fares vary, as they are not regulated, and of course tourists are charged more than locals, but a good estimate would be $15 from Old Havana to Fabrica de Arte in Vedado and $20-30 to reach the Miramar area.
Check Social Media for Current Information
Remember that Havana’s nightlife is ever-evolving; clubs and bars can open or close in a matter of days, some venues are more popular during the week, others during the weekend. Local concerts and special events can transform certain venues into the city's hottest spots overnight. Most bars and nightlife venues have an Instagram or Facebook page, this is usually the best place to find current information. For an unforgettable experience, consider booking a night out with a local expert, especially if you’re celebrating a special occasion or want to access where the cool crowd gathers.
The most important tip for a night out in Havana is to not be afraid to venture out of the tourist areas to where the real action happens. Wishing you an unforgettable night out in Havana!
